Deciding

Deciding

A Poem by Odin Roark

With so many research nerds trying to determine our fate, I say they have no say in this personal life, especially re:… (Illustration by Chris Haines)

Deciding
                   by Odin Roark

How coercive
This media pressure
Telling us how to think
How to act
How to play the game
When to pack it in
When to retire
When to die

Hey

Media

Some of us see it differently
Great Czar of the Persuasion

You don’t tell us
Behave this way or that
Toy with the play book of history
Determine a quitting time
Specify a giving up
That time to pack it in

No

Dear “Malicious Intent, Esq.”
Neither you
Nor your techno-future
Will determine my demise

I’m the only one
Deciding when it gets pulled

Spin on that

You ubiquitous threat

Go f*&#k yourself
