sakwa

sakwa

A Poem by odhiambo
"

my favourite place in the world

"

my great great grandparents landed on these sandy white beaches with smiles on their faces ,

as paradise was at their feet.

my grandfather wrestled on the soft geen grass that viewed the mighty nam lolwe

sunsets out of dreams,

with the orange sun making a perfect drop on the endless waters of the lake.

my father spent countless hours of childhood with a fishing rod,

his bare feet helping continue the footpaths that led to the lake.

i rolled in the warm wet sand after skinny dipping in the clear waters.

i caught omena using my mothers lessos ,

moments of laughter and bliss

now all this is no more

the sand is  all gone

the water muddied ,

and angry waves rule

the paradise is dying

you are wounded sakwa

my home
