Yellow Swing Sets

Yellow Swing Sets

A Poem by Natasha L. Koeplin

Yellow swing sets and sunny days,
Wide smiles no complaints,
Put up some fliers for free lemonade,
Why did this all have to go away?

Walk to the park and climb on monkey bars,
Summer nights gazing at the stars,
No worries, no fears,
No heartbreak, no tears,

Long winters and snowy mornings,
Without the sun it got boring,
No more kickball in the street,
No time to compete,

Flowers bloomed and the sun said hello,
Spring is here, no more snow,
Rain storms and cloudy skies,
As a child there was no such thing as lies,

Time goes by and suddenly you’re seventeen,
Not the ten year old beauty queen,
This is not at all what you have dreamed,
But sometimes you just have to believe.
