Tu Es Romam

Tu Es Romam

A Poem by Oceana
"

I am a lover of the Empire

"
You are Rome
You are tan suncracked skin holding vibrant
blood in the way the walls once held people
You are Rome
You are corners I will never turn, you are faces
I will never see, you are secrets I will never hear
You are Rome
You are antiquated beauty with a million
stories to tell to a million people who
will listen
You are Rome
You are Rome and I will only love you
through fragmented murals of who
you used to be
You are the Empire
 personified
You are the Empire
resurrected
You are the Empire
and you will never die
You are Rome and I am a fool for having
fallen in love with history.
You are the city
I bleed for.
Tu es Romam, et semper amatus
es a mea; tu es Romam,
et semper amaberis a mea.
Tu.
Es.
Romam.

I didn't think Latin was taught anymore! Great work, one that speaks to me as I've always loved reading about history and certainly the Roman Empire is rooted deeply in not only western culture but in most of the world's culture as well.

Beautiful work. Rome, the colossus that spanned the known world--the memory that reaches through antiquity to ignite the passions of a millennia. You almost make me see her as a woman of ultimate desireability yet forever to remain out of reach.

This is beautiful. It almost feels like a prayer. There is a reverence and solemnity that I find quite appealing.

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it.
Rome is on my bucket list. What an amazing sight she must have been in the beginning! I am a history buff, what stories she must long to whisper. I noticed one misspelling in the 3rd stanza. Did you mean stories instead of stores?

My pleasure, Oceana!
A beautiful poem for the old city. I roamed Rome a few times in the late seventies. A city with so much to see and do. I like your description. Giving life and beauty to her. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
