A Normal Day For MeA Chapter by KaylaA typical weekend for Nicole Ann McDaniel and her two friends. Today's agenda-Have fun at the mall and dress shop for an upcoming dance at their high school. Finally, the weekend came. It felt like eons since the last Saturday, it’s been a week for me. School to shopping to family to homework to martial arts to defensive driving to being watched 24/7 to almost being kidnapped once a day to going to a party for the royal family of the New America. Yeah, you heard it right. Almost being kidnapped once a day for seven days and going to a party for a royal family. You have to understand it has been 75 years since the fall of the United States of America. After the fall of one of the strongest countries ever, it fell back to monarchy rule. The King, Patrick Holland, moved the capital from DC to Kansas City, Kansas. Yes, with every King there is a castle. This Castle looks like something you would see in a text book during the medieval times in Western Europe. Even though it looks like that on the outside it is totally up to date in security. The only reason why I know all of this and have been in the Castle is because my Father Richard McDaniel is the nobleman that governs the island of Hawai’i; I know such a bummer that I have to live on a beautiful island. Where are my manners? Oh, I forgot I must left it in the laundry room, again. My name is Nicole Ann McDaniel, my family and friends call me Nikki. Even though I am a nobleman’s daughter I still try to have a “normal” life as a teenager at the ripe age of 16. But the only thing I have found that is actually normal in life is a setting on a dryer. I go to the High School on O’ahu, and it isn’t a private school believe it or not. The only reason why I can get by with this is my body guard Mr. Dylan Cooper and my two best friends Alice McCoy and Grace Simpson. I’ve been friends with them since the eighth grade when we first met at our Science class. These two girls are extraordinary and that reason only is the reason why I can hang out with them. You’ll meet them in a minute but first let me give you a brief summary of my friends. Alice was born on September 16 the day after I was. She has black hair with red highlights in them and bright hazel eyes. She looks mostly like a scene kid in the early 21st century. Her family owns a tourist tours around the island and she usually conducts the tours in English, Spanish, and Japanese. She just started on her fourth language, Korean. But here’s the kicker, not only she speaks three languages she also is a black belt in several martial arts. That’s the main reason why Mr. Cooper likes her so well. She is a good sparring partner for him on the mat. Even though she looks tough and acts it she is really sweet, until you mess with her Hello Kitty then you need to prepare to die. Last time someone messed with her Hello Kitty Backpack they ended up in the hospital for almost a week. Thankfully that happened off school grounds and my father can vouch for her. Grace is totally different in some ways but in others she is more diabolical than Alice. Her pretty blond hair and hazel green eyes makes her look sweet and innocent. She is very sweet and opinionated but she is one of the best hackers I have ever seen. Her father runs a computer shop in town so she learned the ins and outs of all technology. She has save me from many mishaps with the bad guys. My friends are really cool, and they are the best way to feel more like a commoner than someone who is in a noble family. I needed to tell someone my story, I figured why not write it out for someone that doesn’t know who my family is. Even though it has its privileges it’s mostly a pain in the neck to be someone who is practically a celebrity on this island. Now, since that has all been said I can get on with my Saturday. Today on the agenda, go pick up Alice and Grace and head to the mall to go shopping for an upcoming dance from school. I looked at my large room that was covered in posters from books that I like to really cute models to movies to bands to pictures of family and friends. My room was like a large master’s suite but in reality it’s one of the smaller rooms in the massive house I live in. I grabbed my purse keys to my 2012 yellow Lotus Evora and ran down to the security room to see Mr. Cooper. “Ready?” I asked him, he looks the same as I first met him. His black hair had more grey in it, probably because of him teaching me defensive driving on crack as I like to think of it. Finally, the weekend came. Where are my manners? Oh, I forgot I must left it in the laundry room, again. My name is Nicole Ann McDaniel, my family and friends call me Nikki. He turned to look at me, "yes I am. Let’s go on that shopping trip," he mockingly shivered in mock horror. I laughed, "good I'm glad my 'harass the head security guard' is going to plan." I played along as we walked through the expensive looking house. He sighed as I pulled out my hologram cell phone and started to text Grace and Alice. "The girls are coming." It wasn't really a question but more like a statement. I nodded, "of course why wouldn't I have my two best friends come along for the ride?" Mr. Cooper knows me very well. He's known me since I was 4 years old, ever since this one mishap when someone tried to abduct me. Not only did Mr. Cooper saved me but he held the man hostage until the police came to arrest him. Father was so grateful that he hired him to be my personal bodyguard. I grabbed a ponytail holder from the counter next to the door that lead down to my car. I pulled my brown hair up before stepping out of the cool garage. 'Chirp Chirp' the car went when I pushed the button to unlock it. Before I could get to the driver's door Mr. Cooper opened it, "here you go Nikki" he said. It took him along time to call me my nickname and not "Miss McDaniel". "Thank you Mr. Cooper." I said before sliding into the driver’s seat. He closed the door and walked over in front of the car to press a small button that rotated my car towards the garage door. Finally after I was aligned with the door he came over to sit in the passenger side before pressing another button to open the garage door. I pressed a button inside the car to make it come to life. I smiled when stepped on the gas pedal. There was about a mile worth of road between the garage and the exit of the house. “Nicole you don’t have to do that” Mr. Cooper said calmly when he notice that my speed was almost at 100. “I just want to have a feel for this car. It’s not been even a year since I’ve had this car; I want to break it in.” I grinned. He sighed and shook his head, “it’s not one of your new pair of shoes Nicole, and this car is very temperamental.” He said which made me slow down. “Spoil sport” I muttered as I slowed down my speed as I came up towards the gate which opened automatically when I pulled up. Driving was fun especially going to get Grace and Alice. There is a huge mountain between us and it’s very narrow and twisted. I love going up it and down it, especially at night. “No Nicole, don’t go 150 on the mountain.” Mr. Cooper warned me like he read my thoughts. I sighed, he knew me way to well, “I need to practice some time.” I complained. “You will tomorrow through that burning building. This time you’re going to go at it in reverse.” He said. Again ladies and gentleman defensive driving on crack, I wasn’t kidding when I said that earlier. I groaned, “Why?” I asked him as I turned onto the mountain. “Because it’s good training for you, you never know when you are being chased in a burning building. I rolled my eyes, “Yeah that will happen when pigs fly.” I retorted. Mr. Cooper chuckled, “you never know Nikki.” Mr. Cooper has been like a father to me. He’s been nothing but kind and gentle around me and tough when I needed discipline which was often when I was five and six years old. “You know it’s been almost 12 years since I’ve started to guard you.” Mr. Cooper said randomly. I knew he was right, tomorrow would be exactly 12 years of serving my family. “Yes, I know and you have more to go.” I said to him. I know his contract, father has repeated to me over and over again. He is supposed to work for us until I get married. Which by the looks of it, won’t happen until I’m in my thirties, the only reason why I say that is because either Mr. Cooper likes him but he turns out to be a guy wanting the money or I like him and he likes me but Mr. Cooper doesn’t like him and pretty much runs him off. Yeah, I know Mr. Cooper seems to be a little controlling but only reason why he does it is because it’s his job. No one is supposed to be near me without his approval. “Nikki in about 2 years I’m going to retire.” He said and I quickly glanced at him. “No you can’t! Father said you are going to work with us until I get married.” I stated. He nodded his head. “Yes that’s true but I would be mostly working in the security room. I am getting too old for outside duty.” He explained. I turned onto the exit that leads towards Grace’s home, “then who is going to watch me?” I asked him. Memories of memorable moments flashed in my mind. “I don’t know, I’m going to start the interviews soon.” He said and I nodded. I really didn’t want another body guard. I’ve grown to like him. © 2012 KaylaAuthor's Note
