Catalyst

Catalyst

A Poem by Nadia Zahran

Ripping the catalyst out of my palm so that I can feel something real

So that my bone can brush up against my check and slice

So that all of this nonsense wasn’t for nothing

I can’t seem to find normalcy appealing

I fight it tooth and nail with everything I have

The little that I have left surrounds me

Drowns me in its aura

Suffocates me until my lungs are completely filled with water

Just one small incision will remove this catalyst

One small incision and I can be human again

I cut a “V” into my palm and start digging for that menace as blood drips down my wrist

Emptiness seeps

The catalyst is nowhere to be found

Drenched in blood

I needed that

To remind me I’m alive
