Ignorance At its Finest

Ignorance At its Finest

A Poem by Nadia Zahran

Supersonic waves of tension

Squeezing your every muscle

To formulate anything that emulates normalcy

Normalcy doesn’t come

Just blank awareness of a complacent existence

Existence that for once is treasured

Unmeasured by expectations and ideas of fallacies

Too often you push these thoughts away

Disclose them to your mind

Yet, all you achieve is bitter ignorance

You know, sometimes I wonder how you can be so ill-informed

So closed to the actualities of this life

To a point where the educator seems like a liar

And the educated lose faith

This indifference makes me sick

Idolizing something that you will soon realize does not exist

You like to blame it on human nature

Or just plain apathy

It’s pathetic that you think you can justify your ignorance with unwarranted excuses

Excuses that feed your ego and destroy my optimism

I can’t comprehend how you can ignore logic and common sense and just live

Is that really living, though?

I can’t wrap my head around such nonsense

This so-called normalcy isn’t normal at all

This so-called bliss is anything but

Your indifference disgusts me
