Emancipating Freedom

Emancipating Freedom

A Poem by Nadia Zahran

Cold, condescending waves
Dreams of days stifled from my hands

I know you’re still there

Waiting for me in the rain

I know you still want me

To take away your pain

Wrinkled and confused

You stand there

Longing not to be used

I pass our memories up
Crumble them so that no one can see

Nothing is visible
It’s just you and me

Do you remember the days we’d take those rides?

Feelings of regret rush through my head

Thinking of those boisterous times

I see the recollection slipping through diluted salt

Streaming through bitter fingertips
Grazing my visage
Thinking it was all my fault

Nadia, not sure if I'll get this right, but here's what I takeaway... Grand memories, maybe just memories of dreams, fantasies, unfulfilled futures, or glimpses of better times, of love, happiness, and true peace, and a realization it could have lasted longer, if not for an regrettable decision. Regardless, I enjoyed reading this poem. Nice work.
