You can feel it,
The crisp weight in the air
You can sense it,
The soft breeze through your hair.
Gently, softly, ballerinas dance
To a near silent song
Twirling, spinning, gliding
Through the night long.
Fragile lace dresses,
All powdered in white.
Dance to the earth
To your delight.
White breath in the night
Amid frozen fingers and toes.
Witnessing the winter joy
At the end of your nose.
The gentle grace of snow
Upon the winters' trees
Opens up the beauty
That only a poet sees.
Glitter covers the earth
Gentle as a child's tears
Softly crunching under foot
Like banishing fears.
Snow in winter
Ice off the eaves.
Frost on the car
Birds hiding in the trees.
Frozen Winter's perfume
Breath it in deep
Let it hold you, captivated.
Lull you to sleep.
Snuggle deep in blankets
Curl up in quilts
Wear warm toe socks
Up to knees hilt.
Such is the Winter
A quite, hopeful song
One to skate to, dance to,
One where we belong.....
