Portrait of My Hero

Portrait of My Hero

A Poem by nyi
"

"Bogyoke Aung San"

"

Can a painting speak

Within the sound of silence?

And touches our hearts deep

To resurface the history

Of a single man long been dead

But never to be forgotten

For the day he left

Out broke the world’s longest civil war

Can this portrait stand

Against the test of time?

That once in a Golden Land

An immortal man had lived

Like the numerous grains of sand

Are abundant generosity of its people

But beneath their joyful fun

Is the gloomy mist of sorrow

Can this be the ultimate art

In portraying what he had died for?

He was indeed a glowing spark

In showing people the road to freedom

Country in turmoil, lost and in the dark

Untainted by power was what he was

July 19th of 1947 was the day that marked

The unending grief of a nation

There might be grammar mistakes here..if you do find some..please ignore..A bit of history lesson..Bogyoke means General in my language..he's the father of now famous people's leader of Myanmar: Aung San Su Kyi...General Aung San formed the Army and gave my country Burma ( what is now Myanmar ) independence from British..although he was assassinated by the British before the country got freedom...Many races lived in Myanmar..they had been fighting each other possibly since the country was formed..and General Aung San united all..that was why we got independence from British..But the British didn't want to give Freedom so they assassinated Aung San and certain retired powerful group of people formed an organization which aim was to gain certain states of Myanmar under British again..so they gave arms to these races to revolt..and Civil War is going on since then..since 1948..I don't want to be specific with the names..I only write this with my limited ability because I admire General Aung San very much..like most of the true-blue Burmese...

A very nice poem. Showing that people are important. Whether they have come and gone, are living now or will be in the generations to come.
This is an eye-opening poem. Beautifully written.

Thank you for teaching me about a great men. I did some research on him. I will try to do more on him. It is amazing how each part of this world have people we need to remember. That is why it is important to write and tell stories about your world. The best writers come from Europe and Asia. Here in the USA hard for them to get read. Thank you for giving me some education. A outstanding poem.
