My Soulmate--the Trilogy

My Soulmate--the Trilogy

A Poem by Tonya (the Night Writer)
"

It was going to be just two parts but after the great Gary H (my friend, and fellow writer extraordinaire/genius) gave me this idea, I thought--how perfect. All of the great works are trilogies--LOTR, The Godfather, Star Wars (though that ended up being 2

"

part 1

I found the person who was meant just for me
Unfortunately he doesn't seem to agree
I like to hang out with him, and try to have fun,
But whenever I do so he just wants to run,
I think he is wonderful, I think he is tops,
But when I try to tell him, he just calls the cops
One day he'll say "I love you, let's run for the border,
And forget all about that silly restraining order!"
We even have cute nicknames for one another,
"Soulmate" is one of them, "Stalker" is the other

My Soulmate--part 2

I knew that if I waited long enough, one day
You would come around and see it my way,
You'd realize the obsession I had with you
Was something you could feel for me too;

You'd decide to take me into your arms
Instead of inflicting so much bodily harm
I knew if I was patient one day I'd hear
Those three little words whispered in my ear;

No, not "I love you" or "Marry me please"
Those aren't the ones that brought me to my knees,
Instead you heaved a big sigh and then
Said what I had longed for--"I give in."

My Soulmate--part 3

Soulmate and Stalker started to go on dates all the time

He fell in love as well, wrote her love letters and rhymes

She was the happiest girl on earth -- for a few days anyway

But after a week or so her thoughts began to drift astray

She had gotten what she wanted, now he was her lover,

But it wasn't the same when the thrill of the chase was over

She said "I need some space, let's give our romance a rest"

But she was thinking ahead about her next bit conquest

Soulmate was crushed, he had really fallen for his stalker girl,

She had become the most important thing to him in the world

He begged her "Don't leave me, I love you, babe, please!"

He cried and he pleaded and he fell down to his knees

She shrugged him off, and she walked right out the door

While he sat there all alone, sad and longing for her more

He followed her with flowers, candy and precious gems,

And she ended up having to get a restraining order on him!

He showed up on her theatre dates, hiding in the crowd,

Wore wigs, sat next to her at the salon (and screamed loud)

Saying "Love hurts" as they waxed his eyebrows and chin

He'd do anything he could just to be near her once again

It just goes to show you to be careful what you ask for

You may get it and decide you don't want it any more!

That's what happened to both of them, and it was a shame

That in the end "Soulmate" and "Stalker" switched nicknames

Once again, Tonya, you give us a shockingly funny poem with a great message! I love how at the end you finished "It just goes to show..." What a great way to end your trilogy--hilarious how Soulmate became Stalker and Stalker became Soulmate. Well done :)

I love the tragic comedy of love, this is a great window, expressing well in few words, a common trait in relationship. I can relate and also found this to be quite funny.

This is great, I got a kick out of it but also you've touched onto something much more.

It always falls back on that chaser/chasee thing lol ... I really enjoyed this, well done!!
So sorry I'm pathetically late getting here. I'm going thru older RR that I missed before.

I have heard so much about the construction of these poems and feel you have worked well to carry through to an ending. The fact of the two changing guises is always something always difficult to ascertain anyway. Sometimes there is a very fine dividing line between who is a 'stalker' and who is a 'soulmate' - not from personal experience - I am neither.

You have managed to play with something that started off a lot more seriously into a fun sketch at the end. Very enjoyable.

He He Tonya, this was such a funny and enjoyable read. Cute, really cute, I can almost see him being waxed. Hmm something I would definitely stay for, just to see the expression on his face. Brilliant ending, really brought everything together perfectly. The hunter becoming the hunted - Go figure! Nothing is ever enough for us at times, right?

Good piece, thanks for the laugh
