PREFACEA Chapter by Stewart NurseIt is not my intention to let people think I am only blaming religion on my depressive state; nor is it my intention to have the reader think that atheism has in anyway ‘cured’ the incurable. What I must make the reader aware of is that my depression is directly rooted through theistic mannerisms of someone who will be known as Steve* throughout this highly confessional memoir - and the repugnant consequences he must face for the rest of his life. Not only will this book heavily touch upon my mental illness, but will also heavily touch upon my transition to atheism; albeit not all about this transition alone, but I will also relay to you my adolescent experiences as a child being mentally abused and even molested. The aim of this book is not to shock you, the reader, with its brutal honesty, often repulsive language, disgustingly hard hitting experiences and even the strongly one sided argument against any doctrine this world may have concocted by man (or a seemingly malevolent entity). My aim (to put it bluntly) is to be as honest as I can with you, in the hope that some of you may relate to my experiences in some way " whether it be mental health issues or religious belief issues " and maybe, just maybe, help the seemingly helpless people out there who see no way out of their mental state. And also to those who feel that they are stuck in a religion they did not choose.
If you fall in to any of the categories above (and even if you don’t) I hope you can find this book useful and informative. I also owe this book to anyone who has ever cared for me and has stuck by me through all the good times, and also horrific times. For without you, I would never have been here today to even write this. © 2015 Stewart NurseFeatured Review
