Lemon, Manhattan, Whine

A one page scene I wrote for a contest that had to include the following words: lemon, Manhattan, whine.

"

INT. CLASSY BAR - EVENING
Scattered older customers talk quietly at dark wood round tables in an elegant bar; jazz music plays in the background.  Two young, barely legal women, PAULA and JEAN, dressed for the club, battle to enter the door first and laugh loudly.  When they see the other patrons, they both freeze and become silent.

JEAN
Now, don’t get mad.  It was listed as a top place for singles.

PAULA
Single what?...You mean widows?

JEAN
Maybe we’re early...Let’s get drinks.
(pulling up her dress)
Ugh...your dress is FALLING off me.

Paula gives Jean a dirty look as they sit at the bar.  The bartender, JACQUES, hesitantly approaches the women.

JACQUES
What can I get you ladies?

PAULA
A Manhattan for me.

JEAN
Decide for me, will ya, sweetie?

A conversation between a couple at an adjacent table gets heated.  The man stands.

MAN
Whine, whine, whine. You sound like your mother.

The woman stands and tosses her martini at him, but he dodges the airborne liquid.  Instead, it lands in Jean’s face and drips down onto her dress.  Paula looks down at her dress on Jean, appalled.  Jean licks her lips.

JEAN
(to Jacques, who stands with two drinks in hand)
Ooh...make mine a lemon drop.
