Part 12: Basement Full Of Even More Crazy

Part 12: Basement Full Of Even More Crazy

A Chapter by J. R.

You raise your axe and swing it into the weak door at full force.
WHAM
You make a sizable dent and draw it back for another blow
WHACK You've now made a pretty big hole, you wrench the axe out of the gash in the door and swing it with all your might
The door has been sent crashing down and it now lays at the top of a flight of darkened stairs. You carefully descend down into the basement. An awful, awful smell assaults your nose. It's the smell of rot and death, with something else added in, the smell of some mysterious chemical, you wrinkle your nose and ease your way down the dark steps.
You eventually come down to a ordinary door, this one is curiously not locked. The smell is even stronger now, you feel almost like you're going to gag. You fight against the smell and open the door.
You're immediately greeted by the sight of a cadaver strapped to a table. It's the body of a young woman, it looks pretty fresh, with no marks or noticeable wounds. There are tubes sticking out of her neck and left wrist that attach to a large pumping machine. Inside the machine is  a glass container that looks like it was taken from a water cooler, full of a cobalt blue substance.
You turn your eyes from the table to look around. There's a workbench to the left with a stack of papers and a small brown notebook. To the right of the table is a large generator-looking machine with cables connecting to the dead body's neck.
What do you do?

First, grab the papers and notebook and figure out what's going on. Once he has a tenative grasp on the concepts of reanimation, spend the next few weeks practicing these newly learned principles on the cadaver. After several failed attempts, the main character will realize that he's been missing something all along and that all he needed was a key ingredient to make the experiment work. Once he has this realization, he will cackle with delight and hold his hands high above him, praising his genius and shouting "Eureka!" over and over again. When he turns to exit the laboratory he'll slip on a loose leaf of paper, fall and break his neck on the work bench. As he slowly dies from suffocation, he'll curse the gods and the heavens and the universe, claiming that his only dream was stolen from him right as he had the means to make it reality. He'll close his eyes, wondering if what comes afterwards is really as bad as he's made it out to be. Perhaps fighting death was a futile pursuit after...all....
Or just have him explore the room and then GTFO. That works too.
