A Poem by Nuella Onyilofor

you push to the front
to be heard
a songbird
a silk scarf floating
to the edge
silent on the outside,
sometimes speaking into
empty rooms
telling yourself stories
about yourself
a reversed order
a lioness in the cage,
pulling pieces from
fountain pens.
