Rough Around The EdgesA Poem by Mary Beth MasonMy autobiography in lyrics.
It's true I'm a little too rough around the edges. Profanilty just rolls right off my tongue. But I spent more time in a bar room than I did a classroom. And I learned from the best when I was young.
The boys in the band and the barmaids where my best friends. They taught me things I couldn't learn at school. Like how to chase Jack Daniels' down with an Old Milwalkee's Best. To learn to hold my liquor along side of a man was more than any school day test.
You knew the way I was when you first met me. And you never would accept me for what I am. You had the nerve to try and change me to what you think I should be. That only made me more determined to be be proud of what I am.
And it's true I'm a little too rough around the edges. And profanity just rolls right off my tongue. But I spent more time in a bar room than I did a classroom. And I learned from the best when I was young.
You said without you I'd never amount to nothing. I'd never adjust to living in your world. You may have taken this girl out of the country. But I'm glad you were'nt able to take the country out of this girl.
And it's true I'm a little too rough around the edges. And profanity just rolls right off my tongue. But unlike you, at least I can say I'm happy. And I learned from the best when I was young. © 2012 Mary Beth Mason |
