ShineA Poem by Mary Beth MasonA woman steps out from behind her man's shadowIt seems for such a long time I've been living just to please you and somewhere I lost sight of myself. Things I'd do for your attention were useless, 'cause you were always looking somewhere else. But now I know what I'm worth even if you're too blind to see. I guess I ought to thank you for the change you've caused in me.
Now I can shine outside of your shadow. For such a long time I could only see as far as you. Shine, as bright as the morning sun, but this time, I'm gonna shine for me.
I followed you down every path, afraid to ever stray. Scared I'd never find my way back to you. But then you shut me out of your life forcing me to look within and I found a woman I never knew that I could be. My vision cleared and I saw you for what you really are but best of all, I'm finally seeing me.
And now I can shine outside of your shadow. For such a long time I could only see as far as you. Shine as bright as the morning sun, but this time I'm gonna shine for me. © 2012 Mary Beth MasonAuthor's Note
