Envy For the Birds

Envy For the Birds

A Poem by Nat.
"

A homeless man's longing to be a bird.

"

Sitting on the corner of the street,

Holding a card bared sign,

Reading “will work for something to eat”,

Maybe someday someone will read it;

While walking through neighborhood I often look up in the trees,

I always see the same old thing,

But my heart longs for what it sees,

The beautiful bird houses hanging from the trees,

Calling to me and inviting me in;

For if only I were a bird,

I’d have some place to live,

The many doors are always open for anyone to come in,

And if only I were a bird I’d have something to give;

I’d give the man on the corner of the street my beautiful some,

For someone like me that can truly brighten up your day,

The birds sing of beauty and freedom not ever having to worry,

This is why you see I wish I could do it the song bird way;

So make me a bird and give me a place to live,

For even the smallest house there is nothing I wouldn’t give.
