Monstology

The study of monsters.

In Paranology, the term is a category that involves monster hunting. A monster is something large and dangerous to people. They are not normal animals like bears or large cats that can kill humans. A Monstologist; is someone who chases beasts.

Monstology; includes Gothic and legendary beasts, like werewolves, dragons, gargoyles and sea monsters like leviathans and the Kraken.

Not all cryptid creatures are Monstologers. Bigfoot, Loch Ness lake monsters, The Jersey Devil, Thunder birds, Dogman, are all part of Crypotzoology. But specific swamp monsters, types of Bigfoot, could also fall under monster hunting. Like the Honey Island Swamp Monster, The Selbyville Swamp Monster and the Fouke Monster. While Sasquatch in general is still a cryptic, rather than gothic type night stalker.

Other fictional and gothic monsters; Phantom of the Opera, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, would not be part of Monstology. They were made up by the authors imagination.

The Wendigo; could also come under the monster classification, or a demonic entity within Ghostology. They are not actually a cryptid creature.

There is a lot of cross over and commonality between monster hunting and cryptid creatures. Like the Chesapeake Bay Monster; Chessie. It is a sea monster and also a cryptic. There is not a hard line between Cryptozoology and Monstology. A significant amount of gray area is in the middle, where different creatures can fit into either, or both categories. A middle ground could be called Crypto-monsters, with creatures that can fit into either or both Monstology and Fortean Zoology.
