Before Today

Before

            You were suffering

            I thought it so cruel

            that I was helpless,

            unable to help you

            from miles away

Today

            You are suffering

            and I hate the fact

            that I am helpless

            unable to help you

            mere inches away.

Before

            When e’er together

            we held the other

            in a tight embrace,

            fearing the moment

            we’d say goodbye.

Today

            We are together

            but hold only silence

            in tight stubbornness,

            on the brink of the

            ultimate goodbye.

Before

            We were a team

            The clear enemy:

            The miles. They

            kept us apart yet

            joined us together

Today

            The clear enemy:

            Our fractured team.

            Each mile driv’n,

            though together,

            pulls us further apart.

Before

            We were thriving,

            only missing the

            physical proximity.

            I couldn’t wait to

            remove the miles!    

Today

            We deteriorate.

            Now that we are

            finally together

            we know what

            it is to be apart.

 

Author's Note

I usually write to release overwhelming emotions; it is the only way I know how to express myself. I wrote this quickly, so keep that in mind. But I take criticism and advice constructively.
