Chapter 1 (continuation)

Chapter 1 (continuation)

A Chapter by November Wilson

By morning gone was any trace of you. You left without saying goodbye. I understand that this shouldn't have happened, but that doesn't make it any less wonderful. I know no one can know. That would ruin everything that ever was. I would probably never see you again, shame would make it unbearable. But you make me feel wanted. For someone like me, it takes someone very special to do that. The way you look at me with your deep hazel eyes makes my whole body warm. Your every touch sends tingling electricity coursing through me. And that smile. The award-winning smile you've inherited from your father.

We were walking on the sidewalk off of Thayer Street. You had come to the shop to hang out. But I was closing, so you said you'd walk me home. I swear I didn't stop laughing the entire time. Then we got to my apartment building and I invited you in. You accepted my offer and we walked up. I poured each of us a glass of wine and we continued our conversation about god knows what. You'd say something funny and shoot that smile at me. I'd laugh too hard and say something stupid in reply. The same pattern continued, with occasional intermissions of wine-pouring. I'm not sure if it was the alcohol or what, but it was just easy to be myself with you. Then after a long, hysterical laugh, we both grew silent. I stared at the floor while you stared at me. Those deep, hazel eyes killing me again. Then you leaned in, and it happened. We kissed. More than once. More than kissing.

"Stop it Aidan!" Felicity shouts with a smirk from the passenger seat.

"Felicity got in trouble, Felicity got in trouble," Aidan chants from the back. "C'mon Lis it's okay, you could always just lay the teacher to get your grades back up."

"I am going to freaking kill you!" she screams, reaching behind her seat to swing at him.

"No physical assault in my car!" I shout.

"Fine Cal, but only because it's you," Lis sighs, as I see her give Aidan a dirty look out of the corner of my eye.

"What'd Mr.Carberry say though?" I ask, as we stop at a red light.

"Calandra Arden Whalen, don't you dare start with me!" she says in a jokingly firm voice.

Felicity and I have been friends since the ninth grade. Neither of us could open our gym lockers on the first day, and bonded over our mutual incompetence. Now we're in college. We've gained a few friends over the years, but have never left each other's sides. Aidan is Lis's boyfriend, they met in our senior year and flirted until the last day when Aidan finally asked her out. I've still never had a boyfriend, but having a friend like Lis make it hard. Whenever a guy would start to like me, they'd meet Lis and completely forget about me. Or they just wouldn't see me behind her big chest, pretty face, and flowing blonde hair. But she's always been a great friend to me, and no boy could replace that.

We pull up to the bakery Felicity and I work at, Ellie's Treats. The owner, Ellie, is an old woman who can barely walk, so she hired her granddaughter, Lis, an I to run the shop. Occasionally Aidan will help us out with moving big bags of flour and  doing other things that we struggle with. It can be hard to go to school and work here, though. We have make things work, or we'd have no income.

Walking in, the smell of freshly baked bread never gets old. I love this place so much. The way that Ellie has kept it vintage and cute makes me look forward to coming here. We go to the back through the plastic swinging double-doors. I grab my old, rose pink apron and tie it around my waste with a big bow. It still smells like cinnamon buns from yesterday. My favorite.

"Hey guys!" Lara says from the corner mixer. She's Ellie's granddaughter. She goes to the local community college, but spends most of her time working here. Her whole life was spent in here with her grandmother preparing to do this. Lara is probably the sweetest person I know, and would do anything for anyone.

"Larry! I haven't seen you in ages!" Aidan shouts, using his masculine nickname for her.

"Aidan, shut up," Lis says, rolling her eyes. "No girl wants to be called Larry, how many times do I have to tell you that?"

"It's really okay, Felicity. I don't mind," Lara replies with a cute smile.

"So what needs to be done today?" I ask in an attempt to change the subject.

"Well, Felicity you could run the front. And Aidan I need you to move the bags of flour out back inside with Cal." she orders..

"Do I have to run the.. Ugh," Lis mumbles. She's a good worker, but loves to complain. One of the reasons I think we're good for each other is because of this. She likes to talk and complain, and I like to listen. I'm quiet, and she's loud which doesn't make me have to talk. That's one of the reasons no one notices me too though. I never have a chance to speak up.

"Ready for grilled cheese?" I ask everyone. The day went by quickly, and we're already closing. After work wee almost always go to a local restaurant known for their grilled cheese. They'll put anything you want on it, it's amazing.
