If this is confusing just read some of e. e. cummings stuff. Yes the e. e. and the "c" in cummings is supposed to be lower case. It was a printing press error when he was first published and he kinda just stuck with it. He was known for playing with the structure, appearance, syntax etc... of words and grammatical rules.
