The Sniper

The Sniper

A Poem by norman hale

As he lays waiting
There in the burning sand
He often wanders
If he'll ever see his home land

Or should he get back
And make it back alive
Will he meet grateful hands
Or must he struggle and strife

Will his girlfriend be there
Or will she leave him in the dust
Or even old time friends
He thought he could trust

He lays with his sniper rifle
Waiting on a convoy to come by
Deep in his heart and mind
He can hear the painful cries

He must follow his command
From higher up the chain
Though he's the trigger man
He can feel ,those families pain

Then his mind drifts off
To the love of his kids back home
How he can't wait to hold them
Swearing to never again to roam

In the distance now
He sees the head lights
So he starts getting ready
As he gets them in his sights

Before he realizes it
His bullet has found its markl
The driver is instantly dead
No one seen even the a spark

The other truck keeps coming
As he reloads his chamber too
Those bullets find their marks
For he is one of the chosen few

They never knew what hit them
They never even saw his flash
But, death found them much quicker
Than if they had died in a crash

So support your soldiers
Where ever they may be
For we have no idea
Of all the Hell they must see
