Today I Got Your Letter

Today I Got Your Letter

A Poem by norman hale

Today I got your letter
That tore my world apart
Though it wasn't a knife
It split in two my heart

It said you don't love me
Though I find that hard to believe
It sent me into a shock
Along with a lifetime of grief

Today I got your letter
That stopped the hands of time
It seemed the world stood still
When you wrote "you could never be mine"

The letter wasn't all that long
Just a few paragraghs it seems
But with just a few short lines
You shattered all of my dreams

The letter wasn't all that big
But so powerfull it sure seems
Though I could hardly read it
For the tears running down in streams

That letter is just a reminder
Of the love we used to share
It seems you knew all along
Of just how much I care

This letter I shall keep
To hold me through stormy weather
I'll keep it close to my heart
To remind me of when we where together

With just a paper and pen
To write such powerful lines
Wishing to turn back the hands of time
Back to those days when you where mine

You wrote "I wish you the best"
But, we know that can't be true
For if you had wish me the best
Then I would still be with you
