He Walks Through The Woods

He Walks Through The Woods

A Poem by norman hale

In the still of the night
He wanders down the trail
He's been there for centuries
Now he's old and frail

Some say he's a warlock
Just watching time pass him by
Others think he's an ex- marine
Excused for being a spy

But he walks through those woods
On the same trail every night
Some say hey he's a weirdo
And others claim he's not very bright

He has his own burdens
To carry on his shoulder
It couldn't be any worse
It's as big as any boulder

He lost his wife and kids
So many years ago in his past
It was as if he had turned around
And a wicked spell was cast

He walks this trail
Where once his house had stood
Now there are nothing but memories
And paths leading through the woods

Though he don't know it
He's been dead for over fifty years
He still walks the floor
While sheading those painful tears

Few can still see him
Walking through the forest land
Looking for his kids and the one he loves
To hold onto and to hold her hand

He don't know she died
In a wreck just down the coast
She also walks looking for him
To hold not knowing they are both ghosts

A love so lost for so long
Brings a tear to ones eyes
And the wailing through the woods
Are just their mournful cries
