Luddites Return 2

Part 2 of Luddites Return

Recently, I wrote a little verse,
bemoaning that the Luddites time has come.

Things, it seemed, could not get any worse,
until I heard the current beating drum.

 

The list, I see, is longer than I thought,
including writers, crunchers and the like.

The world of collars blue and white are wrought,
with pink slips telling them to take a hike.

 

Perhaps one day the politicians too,
will fade into that unemployed abyss.

Will that allow the sunshine to peek through?
or will it also turn into a miss?

 

Surely, there is still one safe retreat,
but when will software writers feel the heat?

BLAM! You hit the nail, baby! I was lucky to enjoy a 30+ year decently-paid & steady writing career, but often bemoan the proliferation of words that now creates an indiscriminate shitload of noise. Then the politicians . . . I just heard on the news that the two political parties are becoming irrelevant. Wouldn't that be nice? And your final blow -- software developers! Admissions of them joining at the hip,
although it’s been the truth for many years,
We now see through the fog. One’s made a slip
and showed us one more reason for our fears.

My hard drive failed and left me the wing
One thing I lost put my head in a bind.
I wrote a third slug for the Luddite string.
I’ve searched my head, and it I cannot find.

So! “Write it once again,” I tell myself.
My muse says “Check your backups. Hee, hee, hee.
But, nowhere in my mind, or cyber shelf,
do any hide nor hair of it I see.

Alas, I’ll have to start again from scratch,
for something new, my futile muse to hatch.

Thank you for conversing in verse once again! Always a pleasure. I find that I can rewrite a poem many different ways. Some topics, like my dogs, end up the topic many times over. Now I can just say my hard drive ate my previous version! *wink! wink! Fondly, Margie

Hi Margie,

I've been kicking around the idea of another book, but this might not be the site to expose it. There seems to be almost no useful help in the reviews for prose. Maybe after a while, when I figure out how (or if) one gets notified when a particular member posts, it'll make sense to sling it against the wall to see if it sticks.

Here, for instance, I get an email notification when you post a review, but not when you post a new verse. Is there any way to let the site know that I'd like to see your new works as they appear?
