That Twinkle

The twinkle in your eye is what first drew me to you.

It seemed to taunt and entrance me in the same instant.

It sparked a love as deep as the ocean, and I didn’t mind sinking.

It was the beginning of a story that I didn’t want to end.

It touched me in way I had never been touched before.

It promised me that I was The One.

The twinkle in your eye is what then destroyed me.

It teased me, played with my emotions.

It allowed me to believe in something that was never there.

It tricked me into falling and falling hard.

It deceived me time and time again.

It broke the heart that beat only for you.

The twinkle in your eye drew me in and then destroyed me.

I now have to shield my own eyes, so that I do not fall again.

My heart cannot handle your control.

I must be strong, I must hold myself up.

I will not let myself be drawn in by the twinkle in your eye,

just to be broken down and destroyed by you again.

That twinkle that you both love and hate, that can make you fall to hell, but once you're there you don't wanna get out from it. Or you can't. I like how you quite captured that euphoric yet frustrating feeling of being into someone. Lovely poem. :)

I like the way your poem starts out by showing a contrast, how the twinkle is both this & that. Then the rest of your message details each of these opposing forces so that the reader can feel the push & pull inside the narrator's mind. Your descriptions of falling hard & then being hurt are universally stated but with originality.

A twinkle in an eye can bring to solid ground or ensure that we've drowned. That spark is dangerous, because you love it without knowing it, and it can break you with ease. So we shield our eyes before becoming entranced once more. Excellently penned.
