You've Come Back

You've Come Back

A Poem by mae23

When you were away

It felt like my world

Was barely holding together

Without you there

To pick up the pieces

I kept crumbling

And crumbling

          And crumbling

No part of my heart

Was surviving

And when I heard

You were coming back,

I wanted

to be happy.

I thought,

      I thought,

that I could finally feel

okay again

That as soon

as I saw you

the

   pieces

that

had

    broken

would fit back together

and I would be

as good as new.

But here you are

and the tears

       running down

                     my face

sting.

My father had a wise saying. Once, a mistake. Twice, a fool and three times. You are a dummy. I understand the poem. Trying hard and repetition of cheating again. Strong flow of thoughts led to honest ending. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
