Shade

Shade

A Poem by mae23

White, the blank sheet of paper. White, the blinding light of the morning. White, the blizzard on the other side of the window. White, the traditional wedding dress. White, the beginning and the end. White, the simplicity. White, the reflection of the moon on the water. White, the glow of a halo. White, the chocolate that isn't really chocolate. White, a second chance. White, the innocence of a newborn. White, a brand new pair of shoes. White, a pure act of kindness. White, the absence of color. White, the soft and sharp. White, the cotton being made into cloth. White, the foam on crashing waves. White, the open and willing. White, the best kept teeth. White, the underbelly of a whale. White, a blank state of mind. White, the background music that is constantly playing. White, the shield of invisibility. White, the new and untouched. White, the shimmer of nothingness.
Grey, the in between of black and white. Grey, the color of uncertainty. Grey, the sky after a storm. Grey, the hair of a grandparent. Grey, the go-to wall color. Grey, a tainted white paint. Grey, the blur of time. Grey, the haze of sleepiness. Grey, the unseen color of the rainbow. Grey, the unwanted. Grey, the noise of life. Grey, the laziness on a Sunday morning. Grey, the eye color of the confused. Grey, the dirty snow on the side of the road, Grey, a cold steel. Grey, the wandering and wondering. Grey, the unused crayon in the box. Grey, the overtones of every rainfall. Grey, the shoelaces on a worn out pair of shoes. Grey, the ache of any loss. Grey, the lint under the bed. Grey, the wanting and not having. Grey, the speed of slow motion. Grey, the pebbles making up a driveway. Grey, the most comfortable sweatpants. Grey, the fading memory of a loved one.
Black, the absence of light. Black, the pavement of a highway, Black, the eyes of the haunted. Black, the neverending holes. Black, the cat you don't want in front of you. Black, the edge of burnt cookies. Black, the shadow cast by the sun. Black, the hidden secrets. Black, the heart of evil. Black, the first fear of every child. Black, the knot in your stomach. Black, the blank screen. Black, a pit of stress all too easy to fall into. Black, the lost. Black, the clothes worn to a funeral. Black, the cover of night. Black, the disguise of a criminal. Black, the cold and dark. Black, the shade under a tree. Black, 36 keys on a piano. Black, the feeling of failure. Black, the rotten core of the apple. Black, the depressed and lonely. Black the unknown of space. Black, the places no one dares to go.

Amazing use of words and thoughts. I liked how you used the colors to create reactions and thoughts. Colors do have meaning. A world without color would be a dark and lonely one. I like the flow of thoughts leading to strong ending. More story than poem. Thank you for sharing your amazing words and thoughts.
