Em'Rah

Em'Rah

A Poem by nopoet

Em’Rah

This be I

Exclaiming my birthright,

expounding on my connection with the heavens above

I am exerting my influence on all things real and unseen

These hands place things in motion

I am the omnipotent master of law

Creating balance within the universal equation

All things fall under my jurisdiction

great and small

I command them into being

Who is this that would challenge my sovereignty

You, whom I have given privilege and law

It has become my right…

As it is I who rule with strength and authority

It is because of my guidance and mastery of all things

imagined and unknown

that I should warrant this dominion and prestige

not simply by the weight of my scepter

but by prerogative and imperium dominance

that it is I that should hold the last word

Who could you be expressing such moxie

As to challenge my regency and superiority

Never let it be taken for granted this license I give

You whom I have given the inside track to behold my diadem

that now you would step into my realm as if to hold such clout

Are you not the same that would sway in confusion,

lost with no direction

If it were not for my say-so

Still you come before me with such predominance

and under whose authorization

The juice you carry

due to the masterdom of noun, adjective and verb

And your lungs just blowing full steam

Still the ascendancy is Word

I am the connection

domination and might

The power of God… Em’Rah

I am very impressed with this piece. I think that God should have written this on the seventh day because I can only image that this is what he felt after all things were created and new. Once again, I am very impressed with this amazing piece.

I love the bold audacity of this poem, the way in which it declares, uh, I AM God, King, Rah. However, some notes for improvement, if I may? One of my pet peeves as a poet is poetry composed of sentences. Poetry, BY DEFINITION, is VERSE, not sentences chopped up into lines.

One of my "construction rules" when attempting to build a poem (and oh yes, I fail frequently and often!) is that EACH LINE MUST BE A POEM IN ITSELF. If EACH LINE must carry the weight of metaphor and simile and symbolism, EACH LINE, then I am much, much more careful about how I build and construct and populate (in terms of words) my poems. It's a tough rule, but it keeps me honest. :-)

Another thing: always proof and proof and proof again: "and under who's authorization"? Uh, not quite. Whose, not who's. A frequent and common mistake the type of which I am CONSTANTLY correcting in my own writing.

Just a penny or two from a pinhead dope (ph.d.; my older brothers keep me humble!),

Dr. Ni
