True To You

True To You

A Poem by Nolene Bedi

I was walking down on 50th Avenue

Laughin’ and a’trippin’ up till I saw you
You looked at him beside me and I saw you knew
That I hadn’t been true to you

When your eyes gazed at me they were like flints of steel
My heart fell down, I lost my crown, I didn’t feel real
My mind went blank; I almost forgot I had to appeal
For I hadn’t been true to you

Oh baby, can’t you see
I’ll leave him, if you ask me
To be true, to my boo
In the end I just want you

My leaden tongue can’t seem to say the words I feel
My eyes fill with tears to which I must now yield
There are waves of regret running from my head to my heel
‘Cuz I hadn’t been true to you

Oh baby, can’t you see
I’ll leave him, if you ask me
To be true, to my boo
In the end I just want-

To prove to you now
That I always shall
From here on
Be faithful to you

Few years later, not gonna be feeling any rue
Walking down the aisle, people watching from the pews
As we kiss and people cheer, I’m gonna be glad
That I chose to be true to you

Oh baby, can’t you see
I’ll leave him, if you ask me
To be true, to my boo
In the end I just want you

Oh baby, can’t you see
I’ll leave him, if you ask me
To be true, to my boo
In the end I just want you
