A New Friend

A New Friend

A Story by Cassidy Jeanette Jacobs
"

third part of "Life, Love, and Shotguns". I introduced "Violet" or commonly referred to as "Vie" She's yet another outcast, and one of Rarian's only friends. She's cool but very sarcastic and spunky.

"
Did he just...blush? No no, it's gotta be in my mind. He's just another Mr. Popular trying to mess with me because I'm queer in both the real and "new" definition of the word. "Here, let me help you." he said as he reached out a hand to help me up. I grabbed his incredibly smooth yet slightly firm hand. He easily helped me to my feet. "Uh, th -thanks." was all I could manage to say. "Hey, you seem pretty cool and I uh...wanted to know if you like...wanted to hang out sometime or something...I think it would be awesome if we could be like friends." he said half rushed.
"Uh, s-sure." I said happily shocked. Wow, this is the nicest I've ever been treated at school. He smiled at me sweetly. I smiled back while looking at the ground. He was about to say something when a bell rang signaling the end of lunch. Oh damn, I forgot I was at school. Dang I also missed my whole lunch. Oh well, It was well worth it. He laugh a little which told me that he had forgotten as well. He then said "Well, I have to go to my locker, but can we hang out after school today?"
I answered "Uh, yeah sure." trying not to seem to excited. "Cool. I'll meet you here after last bell alright?" he said with a slightly brighter smile. "Ok, I'll be here." I said half expecting to get ditched or have it be a trap. He smiled one last time and walked away. I stood there for a few seconds longer trying to figure out what had just happened. I looked at the oncoming crowd of students that resembled the impatient cluttered motions of rush hour on the highway. I was off in outer space until I was startled by an unexpected yet familiar voice.
"Rarian, where were you at lunch?! We all thought that you got killed! Yet, here you are perfectly fine and, getting us all worried that you were getting beaten down by the jocks or something! What do you have to say for yourself?!" the voice said playfully yet tinged with real concern. "Hmm... Oh hi Violet. What's up?" I said sounding slightly uncharacteristically happy without trying. A slight smile still nudging at the corners of my lips. "Hmm... I should be asking you what's up. Or better yet what and WHO are on your mind?" she said sounding extremely curious.
"It's nothing Vie, I promise. What I can't be happy for no reason?" I said knowing that half the words that left my mouth were untrue and completely out of character. "Who are you and what have you done with Rarian?" she said while raising one eyebrow. "Haha, whatever Vie. We better get to class before were late." I said trying to get off that topic. "Yeah, but we don't have any classes together after lunch!" she said while following me to my locker.
"Yeah, it sucks." I said while starting to think if I had any classes with Blake. I do! He's in my last two classes! A smile found it's way to my mouth yet again. "Are you even listening!" she said sharply. "Oh, sorry I spaced. What were you saying?" I said sheepishly. "Well, I was asking if we were still set to hang out after school today. You know walk home together after last bell?" she said as if she already knew the answer. Last bell. Oh damn! What am I gonna do?
Well, I don't want  to bail on him after we just met. I'm sure Vie will be cool. She'll probably just go hang out with Marcus or Janet. So it's settled. "Sorry Vie I can't today." I said rushed because the bell was about to ring. "Why?" she said obviously not expecting a no. "I'll explain later!" I yelled behind me as I ran down the hall to class. I'm not sure what she did after that, but I'm guessing she was late because I just barely made it before the bell.
I sat through the first classes completely bored. I glared at the clock In hope that it would make it go faster. One minute felt like an hour. I gave up on glaring at the clock and began to scribble pointless little hearts in my note book. I spaced out for a bit and by the time I looked at my doodle page it was covered in hearts and Blake's name. Heh Heh oops... The bell rang for my second to last class. I sat near the back as usual. I was expecting boredom when he walked in.
Oh yeah, Blake is in this class! He was talking to some of his friends. He scanned over the classroom to find a seat. When he spotted me he smiled slightly and sweetly in my direction. I smiled a little back as I looked down at and scribbled in my notebook. What luck for me that someone had taken his usual seat. There was one seat in the very front of the room and just about three left in the back. One of which happened to be beside me.
He walked back and sat right beside me. He smiled at me. The bell then rang and the teacher told us to take out our text books, notebooks, a pencil or pen, and last nights homework so I did. The teacher collected our homework, and as soon as he turned around I felt someone slip something under my hand. I lift my hand only to see a note. I stare at it puzzled, and then look over at Blake who smiles back. He then turns back towards the board. I slowly and quietly begin to unfold the note...
