Differences

Differences

A Poem by not_today
"

I will be using they/them pronouns for everyone too keep their identities safe

"
There are three groups of people I talk to
Those who get it
Those who are positive
And those who never fail to make me laugh

Those who get it
They understand if you're depressed
They'll listen to the dark stuff
That no one should have to hear
They'll listen
The kind you make a pact with
The kind who are there to joke with
If you have a somewhat dark sense of humor
But regardless
They're amazing people
Who you love
But you feel as if they might be bringing you down
But you don't stop talking to them
Because you're there for them
No matter what
You want them to trust you
And no matter how many times they say
If we bring you down then talk to someone else
We don't want to be those people
You always say
Don't worry
I'm here for you
And if you're sad
You don't need to put things lightly
You can tell them anything depressing
And they'll support you
And hug you

Those who are positive
You talk to them every day
You end every conversation with a hug
You end every conversation with
I love you
You end up sounding like a cliche couple
You're the best
No, you are
<3
<3
People are probably sick of you two
But you don't care
Because you love them to pieces
And nothing will change that
If you ever want to rant
Don't ask
Just rant
They'll embrace you and say
It's okay
I'm here for you
They're the sweetest person you will ever meet
And you're practically the same person
But you love them regardless
You see their flaws as perfection
You realize midway typing that it sounds like you're in love with them
But that doesn't matter
Because they're one of the best friends you will ever have
And never
Ever
Let them go

Those who never fail to make you laugh
You talk to them every day
They feel comfortable talking about literally anything
Even though some may find it uncomfortable
Like sex, weird kinks that people have, anything dirty I guess
And will make a joke out of anything
You leave wheezing
Red-faced
Sweaty
Crying
Because you were laughing so hard
But regardless they're still always there for you
And you'd do anything for them
Because they're your best friends
You talk about stupid stuff
Favorite vines
Switching the meaning of words
Salads are peas and vise versa
Cheekbones are jawlines and vise versa
Stupid stuff
They understand all of your Broadway references
Vine references
Break into song
Britney Spears
They understand the love of books
And movies
And Hunger Games, Harry Potter, and Star Wars
They're your fellow nerds
And they're accepting
Most all a part of the drama club
And proud geeks
Some like hugs
Others not so much
But you love them
Because they're just like you in those ways
And you can't go wrong with nerdiness

All of these people have certain things in common
You can rely on them
Telling them the dark stuff
Ranting about your complicated love life
Talking about that time you accidentally inhaled milk through your nose
And you love them all
And hugs
But they'll always be there for you
And you'll always be there for them
