The Long-Winded Road

The Long-Winded Road

A Poem by nmpsr14

the long-winded road
turns like fractured bones
and the darkening night
is eclipsed by the snow
the howl from afar
that you feel in your heart
its echo beats a rhythm
that tears you apart

it's extinguishing a flame
that once lingered inside
the light that you felt
now chooses to hide
and the steps that you track
they're falling so steep
you should've turned back
but you're in too deep

the long-winded road
it comes to an end
and that tunnel you seek
is just up around the bend
