Firewall

Firewall

A Poem by nmpsr14

I feel a warmth from inside
growing stronger with ire
and it's dim-lit fire is threatening
to burn me alive
I'm alive with you beside
me, but you don't seem to care
no, you don't seem to share this desire

I feel a spark from within
the embers growing with wind
and it's glowing alit and I cannot
admit, this heat that I feel
it's simmering deep
and I lose it with you
my well-crafted mask slipping through

I feel a burn underneath
a fire settling in deep
and it's flames fly high
well into the night,
it's weakened the structure
it's blackened the paint
it's tarnished the heartbeat
of what still remains

but somehow it seems that
with the simplest of deeds
that well-crafted wall
you somehow make it fall
