The TyrantA Poem by Nick LybargerThe Tyrant oppresses expression, our soul is starved and destroyed. We hide behind – masks we create, Hiding ourselves from his piercing gaze The Tyrant stares us down If he penetrates the mask, The darkness will rise. Fear is a powerful weapon Paralyzed, blinded, and dumb We accept the Tyrant as our king, our god Our mask a happy smile, Our souls cry out in agony. We fear the revelation of iniquity, But we fail to see Our iniquities make us human. The Tyrant is invincible. Seen through a piercing gaze, The true Tyrant is revealed. He wears a mask of steel His soul is dead. What will we become when The mask starves the soul? A sea of masks – The human race extinct. The Tyrant created us in his image, Soulless shells, we walk the earth. We thought we were hiding – He saw us all along... © 2009 Nick LybargerReviews
