The Witches Melody
A Story by Amartolos
Once upon a time, there was a witch.............
Once
upon a time, in a faraway land, there lay a forest sheltering an evil
witch. However, no matter the danger that resided within the wood, many
had so foolishly fallen victim to the witches spell. It was a melody of
some sorts, a song that if played correctly could make someone fall
asleep for what is believed to be a thousand years. One day, when the
moon was full and curtain like clouds draped over the starlit sky, a
young boy wandered into the horrid place. Every where in which the boy
looked; people were fast asleep. Deeper and deeper into the woods he
went; hoping to satisfy his curiosity. However, as he walked; he grew
more and more tired, almost to the point of collapsing. The young boy
too would have been cast into eternal sleep if it had not been for the
witch of the forest. She was there when he fell, almost as if she
had anticipated his very limit of consciousness. The woman soon took the
boy back to her abode; a small log cabin at the heart of the wood. She
placed him on a bed in which sat across from a stone fireplace; and
taking a chair from the dining table, she sat at the foot of the bed;
watching over the young man. Days passed, and the boy had yet awoken from his slumber. Everyday, the witch would sleep at the the beds end, hoping that the child would soon awake from his dreams. However, he did not; and when the witch had finally realized that he would not wake up, 9000 years had passed since that very day. The boy was no longer a boy, but in fact a man. The witch however did not wish for the boy to wake up, for she had fallen in love with him, and did not want her love to be shattered by her appearance. With this, she sang her lovely melody every morning and every night, creating a new song that conveyed her feelings for him. However, one day, when the witch was casting the sleep spell upon new victims, the boy woke up. He sat up on the bed and watched the witch as she sang her sleeping song. She was standing in the center of the cabin, hitting high notes then low notes; changing her voice to minor and major scales. The woman had her back turned toward the boy, not noticing that he had awoke. The boy however, taking a small knife from his pocket, slowly walked towards the witches back. He wrapped his arms around her, as if he were hugging her, then quickly stabbed her as she sang the songs ending. She slowly turned and looked at the boy; still singing her tune, and cried as she her body fell to the floor. There, she slowly bled to death; still singing her sweet song; the witches melody.
