Petrified Rust

Petrified Rust

A Poem by nj coleman
"

hollow and hardened

"
My words
I've tried to put it into words
My eloquence wanes, withered and woolen
Shakespeare I'm not

My song
I've tried to put it into song
My melody flails, falling flat
Gershwin I'm not

Yet My Heart
My heart beats strong on the strength of your love
My rivers run swift on the depth of our love
Without your love, I've a heart full of dust
Hollow and hardened
Petrified rust

I could see this as a greeting card verse. It reads beautifully and closes poignantly. I'd say it's perfect!
