The angel and The devilA Poem by Nicola Farren
An angel,a devil
each a shoulder to perch on. Played a long game of chess. Using only one pawn. At a crossroad the pawn stopped and wondered which road to walk down. The devil whispered “The right path” and the angel did frown. The angel had been silent and he did not persuade the poor little pawn on the journey he’d made. Yet the devil was always a voice in his ear. Always outspoken when indecision was near. The right path was a short life with nothing to tell. Full of disperse and it lead straight to hell. The left path was long and did not contend. But was full of experience and life till the end. The devil he chuckled stood up and said “Take the right path dear pawn It is easy to tread The left path is rocky It will consume all your time. whereas the right path is short and continues in line. The pawn became wary His journey had been long. So the angel stood up and burst into song. “To truly live life you must experience things and feel all the emotions that your struggles may bring. Life may be hard uncertain but true. You can live it and feel it with all that you do. To give up and take the easy way out would be no life at all Of that there’s no doubt. So the pawn he decided to go the right way. The left path he took and the angel did say. “Thank you my friend you have made the right choice” And the pawn he gained solace from the sound of his voice. © 2012 Nicola FarrenFeatured Review
