Goodbye, 2018.

Let us be kinder to ourselves in 2019.

Oh, we’ve all come a long way

The waters’ been so darn rough

But we’ve made it through each day

So does it really matter if we aren’t tough?

The colours of humanity continue to fade

Leaving us so exhausted and disillusioned

The sound of rage and violence leaves hope muted

But there are sparks of kindness, and these aren’t silent 

Words people say continue to stab us 

Our hearts get broken over and again

But our skins’ grown a little thicker

And we learnt to say no to a dead end

We 've struggled and pushed loved ones away

We’ve cried, a thousand times we’ve lied,

We asked too many questions with no answers

We bury ourselves alive each time we think we’d die 

But it’s the end of another chapter and we’re still here,

We’ve built the courage to survive despite all the fears

So let us be kinder to ourselves the next year,

Even if life so wishes for us to keep shedding tears

To all the pain and disenchantment we’ve felt and seen,

we now leave them behind in twenty-eighteen.
