A Wandering Soul

A Wandering Soul

A Poem by Nisha M.
"

If the ungodly hours of the night were in the form of the poem, this is what I believe it would look like from my perspective.

"

I question my purpose many times

But each time I try,

I'm left with no answers,

I'm merely surviving before I die

I question my existence once again

But each time I do,

I arrive at a dead end

With no one reaching out a hand.

I keep wondering, I keep wandering

Alone, in this biting cold,

with no one to call.

Can you hold me?

And comfort me in your embrace?

Can you keep me together?

And make this broken self feel safe?

But each time I dream,

I wake up to the same miserable fact

As dawn greets me with a reminder that I'm still alone

And nothing is ever going to change that

A misguided soul who has fallen

In a place so exceptionally cruel

An insignificant soul who has been forgotten

In this merciless and unforgiving world

Till the end of time,

I'm just a wandering soul,

Alone,

in this brutal cold.

Till the end of my life,

I remain a broken soul,

Alone,

with no one to hold.

A little bit of context: I wrote this on my phone in the wee hours of a cold morning whilst listening to melancholic songs. (I suggest reading this with a sad song in the background. It doesn't hurt to have a little dramatic effect!)

A melancholic little poem, nicely expressed. When you can't sleep at night, things often become exaggerated, appearing worse than they actually are. So if you are pondering on your existence and the purpose for you being on this planet, I'm not sure you will find any answers in the wee small hours when you are on your own.

A sad poem shared. It sad when we feel alone and we cannot find comfort. The poem made the reader feel the sadness and the dead-end.. Thank you Nisha for sharing the amazing poetry.

I read your two postings side-by-side – the poem & the song version. It seems in the song version you mostly re-structured with verses & chorus, etc. . . . but the message is pretty close to the same for each. One thing I noticed is that the poem version feels more intense, more spontaneous, more urgent. Maybe as a result of fine-tuning the structure, in the song version, it seems you may have lost a little bit of the passion. Just guessing. The “pre-chorus” lines (both versions) are the very best to me. This works well as a chorus or repeated refrain in a poem. I believe most people hate being alone, which are the true-to-life sentiments you convey. But for me, being alone is a good thing, so I’m not howling in loneliness as in your message! *smile* Fondly, Margie

This really touched my heart. Your poem expressed how I use to feel. How I use to see myself. Alone in a cruel world. A lost soul. It is true that many wander earth lost. It's those souls that haven't figured out why they are here. Until we realize we are souls in a body, and not bodies with a soul we will forever just roam a cruel world. The beauty of ypur poem is that it opens the door to the dormant soul locked within. Through melancholy melodies we are awaken to want more. I liked your poem. Thank you for sharing.
