Intoxicated

Intoxicated

A Poem by Nisha M.
"

The protagonist is attempting to cope with the death of a loved one - This poem portrays the struggle.

"

I looked at my watch again,
Seeing the days fly past, time is flying too fast
How have you been? You’ve been gone for so long
I wonder if you’re doing well without me

Because here I am, again, thinking about you
Every day, every night
You consume my every thought,
You darken my every light

Our memories are fixed, they are not fleeting
But why can’t you seem to understand that?
You get nothing from taking me with you
I have to live, you have nothing to lose

I know we were intertwined
I know we were made to die together
But it’s time that I make it clear to you
You are the phone call I’d miss
You are the song I’d skip
Now, don’t you think it’s time to cease?

I’m intoxicated by your lasting presence,
and your ghost is haunting me again
Sticks and stones may break my bones
But you swore to never leave me alone

I know we were intertwined

You and I were made to die together

Now that you’ve left me, there is nothing I can do
But you won’t get to take me with you.

How exact, your words depict a perfect picture of the person who has made the desire of their affection the one they can't live without. Well done.
