If You Were Still Here Today

If You Were Still Here Today

A Poem by Nisha M.
"

I thought of a friend when I wrote this. She had lost her grandfather recently and I wanted to write about the loss of a loved one.

"
Tonight, all I want to do is cry
I want to hold you in my arms
Tell you that I desperately miss you
So I’ll grab onto your picture
And hold it tight, granting you every right
To linger in my thoughts tonight
Sometimes I think about all our good times
And all the beautiful memories we’d make
If you were still here today
Sometimes I wonder if you’d give me a warm hug
Because you were so proud of the person I’ve become today
If you were still here today,
I would spend all my days with you
We could go to the park or the mall
We could go to see cherry blossoms or Niagara Falls
If only you were still here today
I promise I won’t take you for granted
Because now that you’re gone,
It’s too late to give you the things you wanted
I can’t do this anymore, I can’t do what I did before
I can no longer make-believe
That the both of us are still spending time together
If only you waited for me, if only you stayed
I sense your presence, but I still suffer
Because all I have are ‘what-ifs’
And the truth is you’re not here today
Tonight, all I want to do is cry
I want to hold you in my arms
Tell you that I desperately miss you
So I’ll grab onto your picture
And hold it tight, granting you every right
To linger in my thoughts tonight
