A letter

A letter

A Story by Niranjana
"

A guide for the person I'd like a letter from.

"

Write me a letter:

‘Dear’

or maybe

with the name

only you call me by;

begin with either.

(No

darling,

sweetheart,

pumpkin,

baby,

boo

or

anything of the sort.)

Tell me you're doing well

and ask me

how I am.

I'll then think

of all the things that are well

in my life:

my new job,

my three dogs,

my father's knees,

my mother's new oven.

Also,

send some photographs

of yourself.

I'd like to see

how many more grey hairs

have sprouted on your head.

What about the pimples?

Are they gone?

Or do they still exist to be kissed on?

Some sand,

some flowers,

some buttons,

a shoelace,

anything else --

most welcome.

End with

‘Love’

or maybe

with the name

only I call you by.

All of this in a large envelope,

nicely sealed.

Address it to me

in a neat handwriting.

And finally,

don't forget a stamp

(not some ugly thing,

I'd like one with a monument).

I'll wait for it.

I enjoyed reading this piece. It's original, a bit quirky, and fun. I especially like the light-hearted, playful tone. It's also sincere and hopeful. My favorite lines come near the end.
"And finally, don't forget a stamp (not some ugly thing, I'd like one with a monument)." Not sure if you purposely chose "monument" how I interpreted it, but to me it conveys something important, bold, and enduring. Thanks for sharing your work. Nice piece!
