Thundering, massive, looming roar Spray and mist wet our faces One thousand voices and tongues Are silenced with majestic awe Of where the rolling waters fall Perked upon observation deck The neon-lit distractions of The Hill Pale in comparison to her magnitude Long-standing ancient mansions That line The Parkway Remnants of a century of power Temples of hydroelectricity Now become mausoleums of an age That has come and gone and remains When man attempted to harness her To fuel the industries of the world Ancient machine that rusts silently Witnessing the rapid, misty flow Along mighty river before she falls Ancient scow stuck steadfast Stands against the current Where it has lain for nearly a century As focus of local folklore And tale of bravery of “Red” river-man Families, people, cars and buses Cram towards the edge of stone walls And witness her in splendour and terror Speechless, timeless, unchanging She will stand and fall And never be forgotten By me © 2008 James Takeo PantonFeatured Review
