I Didnt Write This For You

I Didnt Write This For You

A Poem by James Takeo Panton
"

"Write what you want bottomless from bottom of the mind" - Jack Kerouac

"

I didn’t write this for you

It wasn't my intention

That to you I dedicate
This writing of my invention
I did not aim to please you
With words I write here now
I only did it because I wanted to
With or without you, anyhow
You may not like my rhyming
You may not like its flow

I only write my way

It’s the only way I know
I don’t do it for the glory
I don’t do it for the art
I do it because it’s what I think
Or feel within my heart
I know this may sound selfish
But it’s something that is mine
And somewhere in these writings
The real me, you may find
No need for lies or falseness
Or any dishonesty
It’s just some words I write
With a truth that sets me free
I may not be poet
I may not be very good
I may be overlooked
Or even misunderstood
But still, I keep on going
Doing the best as I can
Does this make any sense to you?
Then maybe you understand

oh i understand. you write because you want to, it makes you feel better, its a release, its a hobby, its fun. in the end, that's why we all write. on some sites, people become so critical, nitpick your writing to death almost making you doubt yourself. that's why i like this site. these lines especially struck me
"I don't do it for the glory I don't do it for the art I do it because it's what I think Or feel within my heart" very true. beautiful. keep writing.

OK, you got me. I almost started to laugh at first but then you found your groove and you pulled it out in the end. Touch and go at first. It was almost like a guy running down hill too fast and right at the end when you thought he was gonna eat it, he miraculously keeps his legs moving fast enough to keep him upright for a final, well deserved bow. Bravo, dude. Bravo.

No you won't be overlooked. :-) Beautiful message. Yes writing can help, inspire, and encourage others, but it is a wonderful outlet for the poet. There are times when the things around you just get too heavy, but writing can help remove the pressure. Very nice. :-)
