I Didnt Write This For You

I Didnt Write This For You

A Poem by James Takeo Panton
"

"Write what you want bottomless from bottom of the mind" - Jack Kerouac

"

I didn’t write this for you

It wasn't my intention

That to you I dedicate
This writing of my invention
I did not aim to please you
With words I write here now
I only did it because I wanted to
With or without you, anyhow
You may not like my rhyming
You may not like its flow

I only write my way

It’s the only way I know
I don’t do it for the glory
I don’t do it for the art
I do it because it’s what I think
Or feel within my heart
I know this may sound selfish
But it’s something that is mine
And somewhere in these writings
The real me, you may find
No need for lies or falseness
Or any dishonesty
It’s just some words I write
With a truth that sets me free
I may not be poet
I may not be very good
I may be overlooked
Or even misunderstood
But still, I keep on going
Doing the best as I can
Does this make any sense to you?
Then maybe you understand

oh i understand. you write because you want to, it makes you feel better, its a release, its a hobby, its fun. in the end, that's why we all write. on some sites, people become so critical, nitpick your writing to death almost making you doubt yourself. that's why i like this site. these lines especially struck me
"I don't do it for the glory I don't do it for the art I do it because it's what I think Or feel within my heart" very true. beautiful. keep writing.

I have always written words,as they came to me...so much so that more times than often they seem like purging, but that is how it is.Writing has great powers of healing and finding one self, and that is why one should write.

Love the line "its just some words I write with a truth that sets me free"

I do understand........my writing is my therapy and if others enjoy it or get something from it too then thats a bonus.

Very in the spirit of Mon Frere Jack.. playful and fearless, honest and open. You seem to done got the skills bud. I partic like the line "I know this may sound selfish but it's something that is mine".. the write centres on an attitude that is important for writers. Self-fulfilment, certainty, reason and bluntness of opinion.. all these things become one package when you learn to write in your own way. Spot on.

When I saw the title to this, I thought, "then who did you write it for?" I know, it's a bit of a smart-aleck thought, but that's me. I freely admit to that. However, the title did get me to click and read, so I suppose the title is very good. I liked this poem. A lot. I found myself agreeing with everything within it. As a writer, I've found that some readers critique my pieces as though I were writing specifically for them. While I have written pieces for people, I don't write to please others. I write for me, because writing is a very important aspect of who and what I am. I couldn't have said it better myself. The arrangement of this poem serves to emphasize your message. It illustrates that you really thought this out and made a true effort to make your point. You've got a gem on your hands here. Now to have certain people - who shall remain nameless - refer to this piece... [Insert evil laughter]

I like this piece a lot, the reason for writing being for yourself - the truth for all of our work comes out.

As to understanding - I definately do.

Well done!!

I adored this poem. It reminded me of my own poetic niche.
Good rhythm. It was a nice read.
