Dain CityA Poem by James Takeo PantonMy hometown, where I grew up...
Two canals come to meet
Two bridges side by side
My past had once belonged there
These memories still at my side
In the City of Dain
Was where I had once dwelt
Thoughts come back, bittersweet
Its presence still heartfelt
I remember all the corners
I remember every stone
I remember it so fondly
It always is my home
The school that I once went to
Grudgingly to class
Same thirty faces, eight years
Whilst thirty years have passed
I remember trees so big
I remember my hands so small
I remember every little thing
I remember it all
The willow in the school-ground
The backstop in the park
The pavilion of a million names
The forest in the dark
The cubby-hole we smoked in
The graffiti on the walls
The speckled green and black floors
That lies within our old school’s walls
The parties of our youth
Held within night-time forest dark
That lay beyond our parents’ eyes
Out behind the park
The friends that we all knew
And never would forget
All my time I’d spent there
I never will forget
