Port Dalhousie HarbourA Poem by James Takeo PantonPlease see my photo album of this evening, located at: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=123152&l=7c601&id=897790111 By the way, it is pronounced as PORT DAH-LOO-ZEE...
In Port Dalhousie harbour
Did my journeys take me
Along the darkened waters
As far as the night lets me see
Across Great Lake Ontario
I see the winking light
From the Big Smoke shining
In the depth of the night
The beacon of the lighthouse
Shines out at coming ship
Across the blackened lake
It silently will slip
The ship it now approaches
And comes closer to my view
Long, tall mast and rigging
Aglow in yellowy hue
I hear the band is playing
For the passengers on deck
As it gently approaches
I begin to crane my neck
To catch a closer glimpse
Of the ship as it draw near
And then I suddenly realize
That it is docking here!
The lines are thrown to shore
And to the mooring tied
I see the open portholes
And the secrets that are inside
Gangway is now lifted
The band ends it tune
The lighted rigging and masts
Point at the pale moon
Joyful sounds fill the air
As passengers depart
Lake breeze fills their bodies
Memories fill their hearts
I leave and pass the lighthouse
Lonely old and strong
Many years it has been here
Many years grown long
Now the ship grows empty
And my journey home begins
These memories I have now
Shall always lie within
