Midnight StormA Poem by James Takeo Panton
Thunder rolls across the heavens
Sheets of lightning flash the skies
Rain comes pounding down on rooftops
As hazy sleep comes to my eyes
In the darkness, skies are brightened
Drops come tapping on window pane
Booming peals shake earth beneath
Pavements grow dark with heavy rain
Streetlamps are haloed misty beacons
Great Lake storm comes washing forth
The sheets of rain comes harder, quicker
Breeze comes mightily out of the north
Street signals glow, red and angry
Roads are barren, black, and slick
Clouds make dark night skies the darker
The air grows heavy, wet, and thick
Now the drops grow softer, gently
Thunder quiets and lightning cease
The storm is gone as it had come
Now this rain brings gentle peace
Tapping, drumming, I grow sleepy
Hypnotic rhythm sings magic spell
Now that storm has come and gone
All is safe and all is well
